78 rpm -- Small Band, Large Sound...Always Big Fun!

78 rpm
is a contemporary blues band playing and sounding like they are straight out of the early years of electrified blues music.  Unique in their instrumentation, "78 rpm" is electric guitar, harmonica and drums.

78 rpm

Allen Stratyner (harmonica and vocals).  Allen, originally from New York City, has been playing harmonica for close to 40 years.  Performing everything from bluegrass to the blues, Allen has played with many musical headliners -- John Sebastian, Leon Redbone, Tom Paxton, the Edgar Winter Group and more.  The Da Capo  "Jazz and Blues Lovers Guide To The USA" lists Allen as one of the blues performers to see when in the Indianapolis area.   Allen has introduced hundreds of students to harmonica playing.  He teaches an award-winning harmonica class for Indiana-Purdue University Continuing Studies program and gives private lessons to intermediate and advanced players.  Allen played harp as a member of the Yank Rachell Blues Band.  The late Rachell (internationally known, legendary blues mandolin player and partner of the great" Sonny Boy" Williamson) said of Allen,  "he's the best in town.  He sounds like Sonny Boy!"  Allen had the honor of co-producing and playing harmonica on "Too Hot For The Devil," Yank Rachell's last recording.  Other blues notables that Allen has performed with include: Pat Webb, Sugar Blue, James Harman Band, Andra Faye, Lonnie Brooks, Eddie Shaw Jr., "Pinetop" Perkins and Louis Myers.  Acoustic style, electrified, regardless of the genre, Allen Stratyner is a magician on the harmonica.

Vince Mullin (slide guitar, guitar and vocals).  Vince, Indianapolis native, has been performing professionally since 1976 touring extensively throughout the United States and Eastern Canada playing night clubs, honky tonks and music festivals.  In 1985 Vince was voted "Best Solo Artist -- Guitar" for a music competition sponsored by Playboy.  Also in 1985, he teamed up with Yank Rachell, forming a partnership and close friendship that lasted up to Rachell's passing in 1997.  Vince worked for many years with famed Chess Records session bass player, Leroy "Lefty" Bates (Elmore James, Jimmy Reed).  Vince has also performed with Muddy Waters' sidemen "Pinetop" Perkins and Louis Myers.

Tim Duffy (drums and vocals).  Tim, Indianapolis native, has been performing professionally since 1990.  Tim began playing the drums at age five (when he received his first real kit, after having torn through several paper drum kits).  He discovered the blues in college and has been a devoted student of them since.  He has played with several of the area's finest blues bands (The Allnighters, The NightOwls, The Wolfpack, The Fabulous Silvertones featuring Clyde Shelby, The Missing and more). He has appeared on shows as opening act with many of the best in the blues  including, Yank Rachell, Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, Koko Taylor, John Mayal.  Tim has been a mainstay, solid, in demand time keeper since he first started playing.  Tim's vocal abilities, that he delivers with great power and emotion, electrify audiences.
